Battery / Charging System Warning Light

Service Soon

What it generally indicates

Indicates the charging system isn't keeping the battery charged properly.

Possible causes

A failing alternator, a loose or worn drive belt, a weak battery, or a corroded or loose battery connection.

Whether continued driving may be risky

The vehicle may be running on battery power alone, which can run out — electrical accessories may start behaving oddly and the vehicle can eventually stall. Turn off non-essential electrical loads (such as seat heaters and the rear defroster), avoid stopping the engine until you reach help since it may not restart, and head for a shop rather than continuing on a long trip.

What a technician may inspect

A technician can test the battery, alternator output, and drive belt condition.

This is general guidance, not a diagnosis — your owner's manual is the final word for your specific model, and a qualified technician should confirm the actual cause.
